Primary Sector

The primary sector of the economy is the sector of an economy making direct use of natural resources, it extracts or harvests products from the earth. Activities associated with the primary sector include agriculture (both subsistence and commercial), mining, forestry, farming, grazing, hunting and gathering, fishing, and quarrying.The manufacturing industries that aggregate, pack, package, purify or process the raw materials close to the primary producers are normally considered part of this sector, especially if the raw material is unsuitable for sale or difficult to transport long distances.The packaging and processing of the raw material associated with this sector is also considered to be part of this sector.
